The bark of the quinquina tree (growing mostly in Peru) is used to extract the quinine which is used to fight malaria and other ailments. Its powder is used in the making of tonic wine such as Dubonnet. The man seated and pouring himself a glass of Dubonnet has become one of the most iconic pictures of all advertising, an instantly recognizable and ubiquitous character. Realized by Cassandre (the pseudonym of Jean-Marie Mouron, (1901-1968), one of the master poster designers of the 20th century.
