Original French Art Lithograph by Willette Pencil Signed and in the Plate

More Views

Adolphe-Léon Willette (1857–1926) was a French painter, illustrator, caricaturist, and lithographer. The artist was a prolific contributor to the French illustrated press under the pseudonyms "Cemoi", "Pierrot", "Louison", "Bebe", and "Nox", but more often under his own name. This lithograph realized in 1916 features a parody of Lady Godiva, an 11th-century Anglo-Saxon noblewoman who, according to legend, rode naked through the streets of Coventry in order to gain a remission of the oppressive taxation imposed by her husband on his tenants.
