This image of a young woman knitting was commissioned by the American Red Cross in 1918 and designed by Władysław Teodor Benda (1873-1948). Benda was a Polish-American painter, illustrator, and designer. In his time he was as well known as Norman Rockwell, N.C. Wyeth or Maxfield Parrish.
