Original Vintage French - Maison des Beaux-Arts - Savignac & Villemot 1949

More Views

This poster was issued in May 1949 by the Maison des Beaux-Arts in Paris, in connection with an exhibition featuring two of the most iconic French poster designers of the second part of the 20th century: Bernard Villemot (1911-1989) was a French graphic artist known primarily for his iconic advertising images for Orangina, Bally shoes, Perrier, and Air France. By the end of his life in 1989, he was known as one of the last great poster artists, and many collectors and critics consider him to be the "painter-laureate of modern commercial art. Raymond Savignac (1907-2000) was the last of the great Parisian poster artists. For several decades, their works lit up the metro, and those by Savignac were the most entertaining. unmissable. He claimed that his career began in 1949 with the poster, Monsavon Au Lait. With a comic picture of a cow, its udders emptying themselves into a bar of soap, he made a visual scandal - and he went on making them well into his 90s.
