The “Cafe Jeanne d’Arc” in Orleans is a family operated venture still in operation nowadays. The fact that it is roasting coffee beans in Orleans, where Joan of Arc was burned at stake by the English may be merely coincidental. In 1899 , Alfred Bartholomew Orleans opens a store that offers coffee roasted using a patented superheated air system. The store opens on the day of the feast of Joan of Arc , the 8 May 1899 At 7 rue de la Republique in Orleans, while the drilling of this street was barely completed. The shop is open today.
